NaNoWriMo Fever

As November approaches, many of us find ourselves scrambling for those threads of ideas that have plagued us for a while. Maybe we have a story to write, maybe we’ve begun this story a dozen times and just can’t seem to get it off and moving.

So, what do we do?

We dig and take notes, we read and save photos that may be useful as inspiration when the story lags around the second week of the furious month of scribbling. Or maybe we don’t. Maybe our planning only goes as far as signing up in advance and the rest is left to chance. We’ll just sit down and write… just to see what happens.

Whatever your method, remember to have fun this November. Get those words on the page and leave the edits for December and after.

What is the method to your madness? How do you prepare… or not? And how has your approach worked (or not) in the past?

Happy writing!

Live. Love. Write.

  1. I used to be a complete pantser but I’ve realised that my first draft will turn out a lot less horrible if I do a little bit of planning.
For me, it mainly means getting into the heads of my characters along with a starting point and an idea of how the story will end. It works well if I’ve done enough character work. Then I can just throw those guys in at the deep end and see how they react. If I’ve not done enough to learn about them, however, reaching 50k can be a bit of a struggle sometimes.
Right, I’d better be off and work on these characters …
